About

Irrespective of the art form, every artist has a genre of preference. Well, DJs are no different and often figure out their preferred sound early in their career. Quite like his peers, DJ Beat2 heard his calling years ago in the golden period of Paul Oakenfold, Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Sasha & John Digweed. But unlike many he held on to the realities that came with the genre we now know as Electronic Dance Music (EDM) and as he progressed in his career he found ways to overcome those hurdles.
DJ Beat2′s love affair with EDM began long before the partying masses had even accepted her. In India, she was relegated to the beaches of Goa for most part. “I needed a platform. You can’t force your preference on the crowd. So I took the chance I was given. Played to the crowds and also played the stuff I love every now and then; slowly testing the crowd’s response. I also believe a DJ should educate the audience and strike balance.” But playing snippets barely quenched his thirst.
In 2007, DJ Beat2 tied up with the legendary DJ Sanjay Dutta to host “Evolve” – a series of club nights with an eclectic guest DJ lineup and superlative electronic dance music policy. This was their way of giving the few electronic music lovers their fill of some great sounds and also introducing future generation to the genre.
In March 2011, the two teamed up again to launch “Coalition”. But this time there is a clear shift in sensibilities and EDM is soon becoming a much-sought after genre in India. “Coalition” will travel the length n breadth of India with specially crafted DJ set’s by Sanjay Dutta and DJ Beat2. So stay tuned to know when this new wave of consciousness will take over your city!
You can experience the magic on Saturday’s at Aurus, Mumbai and Friday’s at Miami, Marriott, Pune apart from the gig calendar which is quiet busy with tours all across.
The Trip So Far…
If you’ve been an avid club-hoping, party animal through the first decade of the new millennium then you must have surely swayed to the tunes of DJBeat2. A journey that kicked off at a friend’s house way back in 2002 has traversed through musical landscapes across India and the World. DJBeat 2 aka Abhijeet Bohra belongs to a race of Indian DJs who chose their passion over mainstream career choices at a time when work was all about 9-5 jobs with stable paychecks.
He knew the importance of sound technical knowledge very early in his career and earned himself a professional DJ certificate from Azaredo Acoustics. More recently he has taken his passion for composing music a step further by earning a degree at the London College of Music (LCM) in 2008.
One of his very first residency opportunities came way back in 2004 at the then newly opened Vie Lounge and Deck in Juhu, Mumbai. But his most memorable stint (for him and Mumbai’s partying crowd) has been the one at the Super Club, Poison, a chain of plush night clubs across India owned by renowned DJ and Producer Aqeel. He was the Resident DJ at Poison in Mumbai from 2007 to 2009 and flew down to play at Poison in Goa very often during this time. It is no surprise then that when DJ Aqeel launched Hype in 2009, DJBeat 2 was an integral part of the original team. 2011 saw him behind the console at Trilogy, one of Mumbai’s newest clubs followed by his current table at Aurus, one of the city’s plush, only sea-facing lounges.
In the last 8 years, DJBeat 2 has shared the stage with international dance legends of the likes of Paul Van Dyk, Nick Warre, Jonathan Ulysses, Antoine Clamaran, Xerox, Pixel and renowned national djs. He is one of the country’s leading artists not only for commercial music but also for his preferred choice of House, Techno and EDM.
Apart from the magic created by his music, DJ Beat2 strongly believes in passing on the technical knowledge and introducing DJing as a solid career option to the younger generation. The students trained under his wings at FutureDJ Academy hold residency in super club’s like Hype. Also a very active part of the Essar initiative called AVID (http://www.avidedu.in) where he takes seminar’s and workshop’s on the Art of DJing.
Official releases include Kabhi Main Kahun (DJ Beat2 Sublime Mix), Jaane Kaise (Dance Mix) on PowerPlay Records owned by DJ Aqeel and Hotty Naughty (Beat2 in da Club Mix) from the Akshay Kumar starrer De Dhana Dhan,
Distort This Thought-DJ Beat2 feat. Xavier (Tito’s Party Project 2010, due for release), and Dark Morning (Progressive Mix) which will be shortly available on CD’s and online music store’s all across the globe.
